Architecture & Cities 2025 | 2nd Edition

The BIP ‘‘Architecture & Cities 2025 | 2nd Edition’‘ is an innovative and experimental art initiative from RTU IAD aimed at providing students and academic staff with hands-on experience in creative expression through architectural projections. The core idea of the project is to allow participants to explore the interplay between digital art and urban spaces by projecting their artwork onto the facades of buildings.

As part of this initiative, students and academic stuff will gain valuable insights into digital projection techniques, urban art installations, and the transformation of cityscapes through visual storytelling. The culmination of the project will be an opportunity for participants to showcase their art work at the prestigious International Art Festival, Scientists’ Night 2025 in Riga. This event serves as a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration between RTU IAD, Brno TU, Dublin TU and envolving students from Europe and merging architecture, digital media, and artistic innovation to engage with a broad audience involving local communities.

The BIP is organized in collaboration with partners:

• Brno Technological University
• Dublin Technological University
• Poznan University of Technology. the faculty of Architecture

Programme Description:

Aim: 1) to give students and academic staff experience in an experimental IT project; 2) to get impressions of projecting their artwork on the facades of buildings; 3) to participate with their project in the International Art Festival Scientists’ Night 2025 in Riga.

Goals of the Project:

• Provide students and academic staff with practical experience in digital and experimental Art.
• Develop technical skills in architectural projection and urban-scale visual storytelling.
• Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between Architecture, digital media, and the Arts.
• Foster creative expression through the transformation of public spaces.
• Offer participants the opportunity to exhibit their work at the International Art Festival.
• Enhance engagement with the public by integrating artistic interventions into the cityscape.
• Training in innovative practices that value cultural heritage and integrate the sustainability as an organizing principle pedagogical and socio-political proposals.
• Practice of both English and Latvian and finally intercultural dialogue and cooperation.

Key Dates:

• September 8-19, 2025 – Virtual part
• September 21-27, 2025 — Onsite session at Riga Technical University, Riga, Latvia

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MONDAY, MAY 26, 2025

Participants are supposed to cover their expenses with the Erasmus+ grant provided by the home institution. Please contact the International Office of your home university to get more information on funding. Students need to be nominated by their home university to participate in the BIP programme.
