Overview
ABOUT
Every country has its own unique «story of its life», and Latvia is not an exception. The best stories are those that surprise the listener, filled with adventure, mystery, and unknown facts. The most captivating storytellers are those who live within these tales and events. In this case, we are the storytellers — the RTU International Cooperation Department, along with our friends from the RTU family!
RTU Summer School «Destination-Latvia! Nature and Adventure for Curious Minds» is an opportunity for those eager to explore Latvia and Riga Technical University in depth, immerse themselves in new cultures and traditions, and establish lasting relationships with new people.
During two-week summer school, participants will have the unique chance to discover both Latvia and the oldest technical university in the Baltic States!
The Summer School will cover topics such as:
• Latvian Culture and Traditions;
• History of Latvian Architecture;
• Sports and Achievements;
• Science, Technology and Inventions in Latvia;
• Music and Latvians.
PROGRAMME
1.) Virtual part: August 13-15, 2025 (online lectures);
2.) In person: August 18-22, 2025 (lectures, practical workshops and field trips);
3.) Language: fully taught in English;
4.) 3 ECTS will be awarded upon successful completion.
OBJECTIVES
1. To gain a profound understanding of Latvia’s culture, history, and characteristics;
2. Provide the opportunity for students to navigate the country’s significant historical events and milestones with ease.
Upon successfully completing the course, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of Latvia’s notable accomplishments, its diverse population, and the core values that define the nation. This educational experience will empower them with the knowledge and insight necessary to appreciate the Latvia’s heritage, instilling an awareness and sensitivity toward the nation’s distinct cultural identity. By exploring various aspects of Latvian history, traditions, and contemporary issues, participants will be better prepared to engage with and contribute to discussions surrounding Latvia, thereby fostering a deeper respect for its unique narrative and contributions to the broader European and global contexts.

• Participants can employ an Erasmus+ scholarship be provided by their home University;
• No fees for the BIP will be charged;
• Social programme is provided by RTU (travel costs need to be covered by the participants).
